Change is Good!! Embrace it!

Here's the deal kids....
Negativity comes at you when that's what you throw out.
I definitely don't wanna sound holier than thou, cause I am guilty of this too, but man, school has been a downer lately.
Not only have I had some incredibly difficult client's but the other students have just been huge complainers about everything.
Our school has recently transitioned from being a small "hometown" academy to now being owned by Toni&Guy....people don't like change, they don't like corporate...I get all that.
But here's the deal....

We are getting an amazing education, for a much cheaper price tag...and instead of complaining, maybe you should soak up the opportunity that was given to you.
Advance cutting and color classes, and you wanna tell me you are falling asleep???!?!?!?  What?  Come on!
People pay a lot of money to take classes like we are getting.

Anyway......
Dec 15th is my expected Graduation date...then who knows what's next....nervous and excited!!

Anomaly

So, just when I thought accidentally turning my mom's hair pink(ish) was bad, I decided to royally disgrace the hair on my roommate's head.
My roommate's hair has always, been hard to lighten.  I took her from black box color to a really pretty blonde with some darker pieces still throughout...honestly, one of the best foils I have done.
This time, I wanted to try something new.
Instead of just simply doing a foil retouch, I wanted to do a root shade.  I have been learning more and more about color now that Toni&Guy have taken over my independent beauty college.
A root shade is aaaaamazing!
Instead of placing the packets all the way to the scalp, you leave a small amount of the overall color nearest to the scalp and start the lightner after that through the ends.  It just creates such a beautiful highlighted look.
Well....unless you are my roomate. Then it spells disaster.
I wish my camera had been charged, cause the process that happened was something like I have never seen.
She pulled really, really, really warm, like most darker colors do.
With such warmth I did what anyone would have done, I decided to get a toner and try and counteract the red orange in her hair with a natural ash....makes sense, right???
Hahaha, nope, turned her hair a really pretty swamp grayish green....and it wasn't even left on that long.
So now, back to lightner, then some high lift color that has natural toners in it, to help, once again counteract the warm tones....nope.
Now we are left with a scalp too sensitive to brush through and a nice reddish blonde...the complete opposite of what she asked for...she hates the warm red tones.
So what now?
She waited 12 hours, came back to the school, and this time we just used lightner. Straight to the scalp and a cleanse of lightner, shampoo, water and 20 volume developer to the ends....at least it made it less warm, but now, at this point we have moved on to big bird yellow... I think this is about the point that I start to cry. Honestly I have never, ever been so confused, angry, or felt soooo incredibly stupid as I did for wanting to try this on her.
Finally we get it toned back down, still to a warmer blonde than desired but at least to a point where she can use shampoo to help tone the rest over the next few weeks....but GOOD  GRACIOUS!!

Thankfully, my roommate still loves me.  And this was her final results....

By blonde, you meant Pink, right?

Mom came in today, wanted to do a new root shade, and add some lowlights.
After discussing the my desired levels and and what colors I thought would be best, my instructor decided to contradict what I was saying and said to use a different color...guess what happened?
I turned my mom's hair a beautiful gray/pink color....ugh.
I should really just learn to listen to my gut, and do what I think is best instead of always questioning myself.
I ended up toning most of it out and the color looked AAAAMazing in the end.
I made sure to talk to my instructor and tell her how I felt, I mean come on!! Why would you want a violet base when someone pulls warm (red/orange) tones....wouldn't Ash(green) make more sense...I think so.
I also did my first roller set...in school for almost a year, and never had a roller set.
Luckily the lady was incredibly sweet!! Soo, soo sweet!
She reminded me of my grandma.

Now for 2 days off. Looking forward to going for a run and getting my place fully unpacked and organized.
Why is that moving always takes soooo long. Haha.
Well, dinner time.

I seriously need some new recipes....any suggestions?

10 hour days

I started my ten hour school days this week.
No more work equals earlier graduation.  It's such a huge blessing to finally be able to just sit back and focus on my education with no outside stress.
I felt a little guilt at first, for not going out and trying to find a job.
I have held one, if not three jobs for the last 11 years, so not working feels foreign, albeit, AMAZING!!
Today was a little slow...and by a little, I mean a lot!
However, tomorrow is going to be crazy.  I am super stoked to do a new (for me) color technique on my mom.
We took her incredibly blonde last time, and I think it was a bit much so I am going to do some low lights, but keep her root shade the same...tint between foils has been a frightening thing for me, luckily, I have my mom to practice on. :)
I will post pictures of how it turns out....
